This is very uncanny because I woke up today thinking, I want to write about Chekhov’s short stories, ans was thinking about Gooseberries in particular. Of course you did a much better job than I would have but I love teaching him.

If by any chance it intrigues you… I was shooting for a paris rev style narrative and very editorialized piece.

wonderful analysis of Chekhov. and from the intro, this is particularly brilliant:

'Paradoxically, with the passage of time, what accumulates is not only experience but also the absence of experience.'

I've never gone particularly deep in Chekhov, but many of the writers I think are among the greatest consider him among the greatest -
